The story of Castle and Sun

Paul Klee painted Castle and Sun in 1928 at the height of his Bauhaus period — a geometric town reduced to coloured rectangles and triangles under a bright red disc of sun. Klee had visited Tunisia in 1914 and the experience permanently altered his palette toward sun-bleached pinks, oranges, and ochres; this painting is one of the high points of that long African afterglow. A small modernist icon, much beloved by graphic designers and architects.

Paul Klee

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist. His highly individual style was influenced by movements in art that included expressionism, cubism, and surrealism.
